Description
We're hiring a Solutions Architect to be the technical voice in our highest-value customer conversations. If you've worked as a sales engineer, pre-sales engineer, or solutions engineer, the shape of this will be familiar. Right now our leadership and senior engineers cover this between them, and there's more demand for it than they can absorb.
You'll report to the COO and sit with our sales organization, working closely with engineering leadership on feasibility and scope. Most requests center on performance optimization, engine customization, and pipeline integration. You won't be the only technical resource in the room: the rest of W4 is available to you whenever a conversation needs deeper expertise than one person can carry.
This is a pre-sales position. You're not carrying a quota and you won't be staffed on engagements by default. That said, we're under 30 people, and there will be times when it makes sense for you to contribute directly to delivery.
What you'll be doing
- Joining discovery and qualification calls as the engineering counterpart to our business leads.
- Framing customer problems clearly, and separating real risk from perceived risk.
- Owning and proposing technical solutions, working with our internal technical team on the more complex problems.
- Building targeted, time-boxed PoCs for strategic opportunities, reusable where possible.
- Driving technical follow-up after events and calls, and contributing to formats like roundtables where they make sense.
- Delivering talks at selected industry events, building depth in a few themes tied to our services rather than producing one-off content.
- Turning talks and internal engineering projects into blog posts, engineering notes, whitepapers, and recorded content.
Required
- Deep knowledge of Godot as a power user, with broad familiarity across the engine and deeper expertise in at least one area.
- 5+ years across engineering or adjacent technical roles, with the ability to reason about architecture, constraints, and tradeoffs across a system
- Able to prototype quickly, and disciplined enough to stop before over-engineering
- Comfortable moving between an engineering audience and a non-technical stakeholder in the same conversation
- Strong technical writing, and proven ability or clear potential to present to technically sophisticated audiences.
- Self-driven, proactive, and organized.
- Willing to travel up to 25 percent of the time for conferences, customer meetings, and team gatherings
Nice to have
- Prior pre-sales or solutions engineering experience
- Experience in game, industrial, automotive, or other real-time 3D domains
- Contributions to Godot or another open source engine
About
W4 Games was founded by the leadership of the Godot Engine project to help the industries that depend on real-time technology reclaim control of it. We give companies the freedom to innovate that comes with an in-house engine, without needing an in-house engine team. Games are where we started and where our expertise runs deepest, but we believe open source technology belongs in every industry, and we work well beyond games today.
Our products and services let teams get the most out of Godot and ship with confidence.
Equal Opportunity
W4 Games is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing an open, collaborative and friendly work environment and does not discriminate based on gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, language proficiency, age, political orientation, nationality, religion or other similar characteristics.
Hiring and Location
All members of the W4 Games team work remotely. This position is open to candidates in the United States and Canada. This is a full-time independent contractor engagement. The initial contract runs one year, with the option to renew.
